Spring has Sprung list

Many years ago my son brought this list home from his science teacher. Every few years we take it out and keep track of the changes spring brings. It is fun to look back at the differences each year brings.  In 2012 the ponds were ice free by March 9, here it is March 28 and they are no where near thawing yet. Also that year we seen our first Robin on March 15. 

 I am hoping I can start filling in my spring 2014 list soon.

Dorothy's 90th Birthday Party

What a wonderful turnout we had at Dorothy's 90th birthday party. It couldn't have been a nicer day, the sun was shinning with a light breeze to keep it from getting too hot. All the family and friends that came to help her celebrate made it a spectacular day!

New scrapbook cupboard

I finished building a fold-up desk into my new scrapbook supply cupboard.

scanning film negatives

I learned how to scan 35MM film negatives. It would work on any type scanner. Tim found some old negatives in his old Ford truck he was getting ready to sell. We couldn't tell what or who was on them so I had to figure it out. After searching the web I found a youtube video that helped allot. I don't have it or I would share a link, sorry.

I put the filmstrip shiny side down, put a piece of wax paper (just the stuff I bake with) on the top I placed my ipad with a white or lit screen. You can see the frame of my ipad. A smart phone would work also. I read a shiny piece of silver cardstock works but I didn't try that. I scanned it in a low 300 resolution.

I saved it then brought it up in Adobe Photoshop Elements 5. I cropped it and rotated it 180 because I always seem to scan my images upside down. Then flipped it horizontal because it is a negative.  In an adjustment layer I inverted it, tweaked the balance and contrast a bit and merged the layers.

This one I added a little tint.

Our newest Granddaughter was born February 12, 2013. She is so very sweet.

It is so beautiful today the sun is shining and everything is covered with frost.

1957 check for the farm

Dorothy gave Tim the returned check Arnold wrote out for the down payment on our farm in 1957. I can't believe she has kept that all these years. I can't even keep track of my cell phone throughout the day.

SWEET is the new word for Bird is the Word Challenge blog. This is the new sketch and page I made for it.

My beautiful granddaughter in her Sleeping Beauty dress. She loves being "Princess" and I have several princess dresses for her to play with. I always have to play the part of the mean grandmother, oh and Prince Charming too. Why do all Princess movies have naughty grandmothers (the wicked queens) in them?

New Warm Hats

With winter right around the corner it's time to start bundling up again. I'm not really a hat person, I like them on others but they always look weird on me. But I don't like to be cold so I made me a couple of warm hats just for fun. Whether I wear them or not?? Maybe for snowshoeing?

This one should keep my ears warm while snowshoeing.

This is an Autumn poem Dorothy remembered from her school days. The complete poem reads. THE golden-rod is yellow; The corn is turning brown; The trees in apple orchards With fruit are bending down. The gentian's bluest fringes Are curling in the sun; In dusty pods the milkweed Its hidden silk has spun. The sedges flaunt their harvest, In every meadow nook; And asters by the brook-side Make asters in the brook, From dewy lanes at morning The grapes' sweet odors rise; At noon the roads all flutter With yellow butterflies. By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather, And autumn's best of cheer. But none of all this beauty Which floods the earth and air Is unto me the secret Which makes September fair. 'T is a thing which I remember; To name it thrills me yet: One day of one September I never can forget.
